It was started by a number of area citizens who were concerned that the historic Lightstation at Cabot Head was falling into extensive disrepair. In the period from 1994 – 1996 major renovations were started with limited grant money and only volunteer labour and expertise. That effort made the Lighthouse safe to reopen to the public as a tourist destination. The mission is that “Through a systematic program of protection, restoration, maintenance, management and promotion create a sustainable strategy which is sensitive to the historical and geographic uniqueness of the area and permits the Cabot Head Historical Maritime site to be used as a major local Tourist Attraction and Education Centre.”

The Administrative Centre is based out of our Hanover location with a new Training Centre in Owen Sound. Our volunteer medical First responders provide first aid coverage at community events. Our therapy Dog volunteers visit with their dogs to local retirement homes and hospitals. Our two training centres provide a variety of First Aid and CPR courses, AED training and Babysitting courses. Profits from our first aid training directly support our volunteer based programs.

We provide information about cancer-related issues, printed material and will make presentations on risk reduction. We ensure that those needing support are matched through Peer Support – bilingual provincial telephone support and volunteer matching.
Transportation is freely provided to people travelling to cancer treatment and cancer-related doctors appointments by volunteer and we assist families with the financial costs incurred for transporting a child to cancer treatment and related doctor’s appointments.
Revenue from fundraising events throughout the year funds the programs and services the valuable research to fight back against cancer. Volunteers are always in demand to assist in a number of roles: drivers, peer support, leadership, fundraising, office roles and more.
